Odometer, front brake, and a bent bracket

A reading from the odometer, a look at the front disc, and an afternoon straightening the headlight bracket.

A slower Saturday.

Odometer

5,212 miles showing. On a 1984 bike it has either barely been ridden or it’s been around once already. The wear on the footpegs says the second one, but I’ll let the engine tell me when I open it.

Front brake

I’d assumed drum both ends. It’s a disc up front, single rotor, caliper on the left leg. Rotor’s scored but within thickness. Pads are rock hard and will get replaced.

The headlight bracket

Rusty and bent at the lower mounting ear, probably from a tip-over. It came out, got straightened on the bench with a wooden mallet and some patience, and got a wire brush. Page 18-5 in the manual has the lighting layout if you need to see how it mounts.

Odometer reads 5,212 miles. Whether that's the first or second trip around is anyone's guess. Speedo face is clean under the dust.
Front wheel and brake: a single disc with the caliper on the left fork leg. Rotor is scored but usable.
Lower triple clamp, right side, with the cables routed down the fork leg. Note the order they stack in.
Headlight bracket off the bike, rusty and bent at the lower ear.
Other side of the bracket. The clips that hold the harness are still there.
Straightened and wire-brushed, next to manual page 18-5 (Switches/Horn/Lights). A wooden mallet does less damage than a steel one.
End of the day: bike on the lift, front end mostly bare, next to its garage mates.
